GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

TERMS & CONDITIONS
The following is a summary of the Rental Conditions. Please note that all prices
are quoted in South African Rand. Rates
quoted in our brochures and / or conditions are subject to change without notice.
RENTAL DURATION
Minimum rental is 5 days and 10 days for collection / return in Botswana / Zimbabwe.
When calculating the number of
days, the day of collection is counted as day one of the rental regardless of
collection time. The day of return is counted as
the final day.
DEPOT HOURS FOR PICK-UP & DROP-OFF
Britz has branches in Windhoek, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban,
Maun, Harare and Victoria Falls. Office
hours are Monday to Friday from 8h00 to 16h30. Collections and returns on weekends
and public holidays by arrangement
only. Sunday / Public Holidays collections / returns additional R300.
TRANSFER
Airport and local hotel transfers for all branches = R100 per transfer. Windhoek
is R200 per transfer.
EXCESS REDUCTION OPTIONS
Britz offers 4 very competitive excess reduction options for peace of mind during
your holiday:
No Cover
If the No Cover option is taken, the hirer is liable for the first R75 000 damage
to a Britz vehicle or third party vehicle /
property. The hirer will also be fully
liable for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. The excess of
R75 000
can be paid by cash, traveller’s cheques or credit card (a manual imprint
of the credit card will be taken and the amount will
have to be authorised by the bank). This is fully refundable on return of the
vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed
date, with no damage incurred to the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property.
Hirer is responsible for all tyre damage.

To reduce this excess, Britz offers the following options:
Standard Cover
Standard Cover at R150 per day for all vehicles will reduce this excess for any
damage to either the Britz vehicle or third
party vehicle / property to R30 000. The excess of R30 000 can be paid by cash,
traveller’s cheques or credit card (a
manual imprint of the credit card will be taken). This is fully refundable on
return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on
the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the Britz vehicle or third party
vehicle / property. Further details can be found on
the Welcome Letter.
Note: hirer is responsible for all tyre damage
Super Cover
Super Cover at R190 per day for all vehicles will reduce this excess for any
damage to either the Britz vehicle or third party
vehicle / property to R15 000. The option of Super Cover will also waive the
excess for replacement or repair of windscreen
and / or radio. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.
Note: hirer is responsible for all tyre damage
Exclusive Cover
Exclusive Cover at R295 per day for all vehicles will reduce the excess for any
damage to either the Britz vehicle or third
party vehicle / property to Zero
. The option of Exclusive Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or
repair of
windscreen and / or radio as well as covering all tyre damages. Further details
can be found on the Welcome Letter.
ACCIDENTS
If the rental vehicle is involved in an accident and is not driveable,
a replacement vehicle, if available, may be
collected from the closest branch.
If the hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered, then these
charges will be for the hirer’s account. None
of the excess reduction options cover this eventuality.
The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged vehicle to
the original rental depot.
If the hirer is unable or unwilling to take a replacement vehicle, no
refunds for early termination of the contract will
apply.
No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in
which a replacement vehicle is being
organised.
Should there be no replacement vehicle available, no refund for lost
rental days will be considered.
Should the hirer continue with a replacement vehicle then a new rental
contract and insurance conditions will
apply.
Britz reserves the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.
EXCLUSIONS
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Britz vehicle or third party
vehicle / property if:
∙ The terms of the rental contract are breached.
∙ Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving.. also
see Welcome Letter
∙ Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
∙ Driving on restricted roads / areas
∙ Water submersion or salt-water damage is caused.
In case of any damage to the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property
a second excess will be collected to cover the
excess for any subsequent damage.
INFRINGEMENTS
Britz reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines,
associated administration costs and / or
accidents including third party vehicle / property damage not reported on the
return of the vehicle.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
All credit card transactions are conducted in South African Rand. Due to exchange
rate fluctuations there could be some
variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz
accepts no liability for any variances up or
down.
CREDIT CARDS
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly
and severally liable as a customer.
LICENCE
A valid non-endorsed driver’s licence is required - international licence
is preferred.
MINIMUM AGE
Drivers must be 21 years or older.
MULTIPLE RENTALS
Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify the hirer for our long-term rate.
Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New
Zealand and South Africa can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3-month
period e.g. one 14-day rental plus one 7-
day rental qualifies for the 21-day rate.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
Vehicles may be taken into South Africa’s neighbouring states but are not
allowed into Angola or Malawi. All insurance cover
is void if vehicles enter prohibited areas.
Britz reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict vehicle movements
in certain areas due to adverse road or weather
conditions, political situations or any other reason.
REPAIRS
Repairs of up to R1 000 may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed
upon presentation of receipts. When
over R1 000 we need to be contacted for authorisation.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE
Britz reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle should
the requested vehicle not be available due to
unforeseen circumstances. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and
does not entitle the hirer to any refund.
CANCELLATION FEES
∙ If cancelled 25 days prior to pick-up = No Charge
∙ If cancelled 24 days to 6 days prior to pick-up = 15% of gross rate
∙ If cancelled 5 days to 0 days (no show) = 50% of gross rate
If vehicle is returned early for any reason no refund will be considered.
TAXES
14% VAT is included in gross rates. Above prices are subject to change in accordance
with changes in government taxes.
PETS
No pets are permitted in our vehicles.
DISCLAIMER
Illustrations and text in any of the Britz brochures are only a representation
of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the
vehicle(s) offered for rental could occur due to modifications and / or upgrades
to the vehicle design.
