Kakadu National Park is accessible all year round but this site advises what you can do at certain times of the year. During the wet season roads become impassable and bridges are washed away.

Extra care is needed at this time of year for travelling in the Northern Territories of Australia can be challenging even for the locals.

The dry season in Kakadu is between April and October and the wet season or tropical summer is between November and March.

No road trip around Tasmania is complete without a visit to Freycinet National Park.

Start your campervan rental in Hobart or Launceston. To see the highlights of this magnificent Australian state you will need three or four weeks.

Tasmania is really popular for travellers who want to experience the great outdoors in a camper. There is plenty of wilderness in this unspoilt Australian island.

The main rental suppliers such as Apollo Motorhomes, Maui, Britz, Mighty and some of the smaller companies all have rental vehicles on Tasmania.

We recommend picking up and returning your campervan in Tasmania and either arrive on the ferry as a foot passenger or take a flight from mainland Australia. The ferry crossing takes about 9 and a half hours. You will need to book well in advance during summer months if you want to take your motorhome with you.

If you are planning on combining a trip to Tasmania with a road trip around Australia, most companies will combine the two together and apply a long-term rental discount to both hires.

Freycinet is a must for fishing, hiking, swimming, spectacular scenary,kayaking.

Tasmania has its own unique wildlife including the Tasmanian Devil, Platypus, Echidnas, Quolls and Wombats.

You can only take a 4x4 camper onto Fraser Island and you will need to apply for a permit to do this. Two-wheeled drive vehicles are not allowed on the island.

We recommend leaving your camper behind and booking a tour to see this unique sand island.

Fraser Island is a 4 hour drive from Brisbane, Queensland. You will then take a ferry to the island from Hervey Bay.

One of the few places in the world where you can swim with Whale Sharks between April and July and then the Humpbacks start their migration. You can swim with these too!

Ningaloo is a marine park with a great campsite right on the beach. Spend your time seeing the incredible marine life and enjoy the remote western Australia coast.

Make a stop at Ningaloo Park part of a round trip from Perth along the Coral Coast taking in Monkey Mia, Kalbarri National Park, Cape Range National Park, the Pinnacles.

There are plenty of campsites and spectacular beaches and coastline to explore.

Driving up through the Red Centre and stopping to see Uluru at dawn or dusk is a magical and memorable event.

The roads are good and this route is fine for a campervan or motorhome. No need for a 4x4 here. If you do want to go off road and really into the Outback then consider the Mereenie Loop. For this you will need a 4x4 camper and a good map.

You must obtain a permit to drive the Mereenie Loop. It costs under AU$10.00 and can be obtained from the Alice Springs Visitor Centre, cnr of Todd Mall and Parsons Street.

There is a depot at Alice Springs for campervan or motorhome rental. You can fly into Alice Springs and collect a vehicle and do a round trip. Or you can drive right across the middle of Australia!

Try to fit in a night safari and see the wildlife that appears at night too.

You can start your journey in Adelaide and end up in Darwin and include the Red Centre on your way. This is a long trip at over 3000 kms. Try to arrive after the rains so after April and before November.

Start at Broome and end in Perth for a one-way rental to explore The Kimberley. Note that there are excess charges for a Broome collection and other fees for a one-way trip.

The only way to avoid these extra fees is to drive from Perth or Darwin and return to the same location. Or, just pay for the one-way rental fee.

The Gibb River Road runs from east to west through The Kimberley. You will need a 4x4 camper for this trip. It is 660kms long so you should allow at least 6 days to drive it.

The Flinders Ranges are about a 5 hour drive from Adelaide. The Flinders Ranges are peaceful and quiet and you have a real taste of the Australian Outback.

Park up, bbq and watch the sunset amongst these amazing rocky gorges.

The Flinders Ranges are home to the largest lake in Australia. Lake Yre/Kati Thanda is 60km east of William Creek. You can camp at this spectacular dry lake at Halligan Point. There are no facilities here though so be prepared!

Visiting the Blue Mountains is a must if you are starting your road trip from Sydney.

To get to the Blue Mountains is only an hour an a half drive out of Sydney. Take your hiking boots and camera and be prepared to enjoy the start of an Australian adventure.

Spend the night at the Woolshed Campgrounds and take your swimsuit. If you are looking to get even further away then rent a 4x4 to access the many tracks into the bush.

Yes, most companies allow this. You'll need to book Spirit of Tasmania ferry separately (book months ahead in summer). One-way rentals between mainland and Tasmania available. It is cheaper to end your rental on mainland Australia and rent another camper in Tasmania. Discounts apply when the rental is taken with the same company in both depots.

All rentals include 24/7 roadside assistance. Call the number provided, they'll send help or arrange a replacement vehicle if needed. Most issues are resolved within 2-4 hours in populated areas.

Some rental companies allow pets but may incur additional fees. We are happy to help you at the time of booking.

Unlimited kilometres included with almost all rentals. Most travellers average 200-300km/day to allow time for sightseeing. Outback driving requires more time – rough roads mean slower speeds.

Standard insurance is included but has a large excess ($3,000-$7,500). Many travellers reduce this to zero for $25-45/day, especially for remote area driving where risks are higher.

Shoulder seasons (April-May, Sept-Oct) offer perfect weather, smaller crowds, and 30-50% cheaper rates. Avoid tropical north Nov-Apr (wet season) and inland summer Dec-Feb (extreme heat).

Campervan and motorhome rental insurance options in Australia vary depending on the rental company. Most companies offer basic insurance, which covers damage to the vehicle and its contents. Some companies also offer additional insurance options, such as collision damage waiver (CDW), which waives the driver's liability for damage to the vehicle, and personal accident insurance (PAI), which covers the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. It is important to check with the rental company to see which insurance options are available and to choose the option that best suits your needs.

Your amount of your insurance liability will be deducted from your credit card when you collect your campervan and that amount will be refunded when you return your campervan in a good condition without damage. You will be refunded in full or, if there has been some damage, then the amount that it costs to make repairs will be deducted from your card and the balance refunded. If the damage exceeds that amount of your liability level then you won't have to pay more. That will be sent to the insurance company and a claim will be made by the rental company.

The Security Bond is usually around AU$250.00 and is refunded when the campervan is returned at the agreed time and location in a good and clean condition. It is separate from the insurance liability deposit.
