How much does it cost to rent a campervan in Ireland?

Not all additional costs apply to all companies. The total cost depends on the addition of the following optional extras:

  • Time of Year. The daily rental rate is higher during the summer months between June and September than it is during the should and low seasons - October to May.

  • Size of Vehicle. The larger the campervan or motorhome the more expensive it is to rent.

  • Age of campervan. Older and Campervans with higher mileage are cheaper than new or near-new

  • Level of Insurance Cover. Basic cover is included in the daily rental rate. Additional insurance option to reduce the level of customer liability can be purchased at time of booking.

  • Bedding. This is an optional extra. You can take your own if you prefer.

  • Camping Tables and Chairs. These are often an optional extra.

  • Extra Driver Fee.

  • Child Safety Seat

  • Pet Cover

  • Portable Toilet and chemicals if available.

  • Gas bottle.

  • Windscreen Cover

  • Sat Nav/GPS, USB charger, Inverter

  • Tranfers to and from the airport/station/port.

  • Bicycle rack

  • Cleaning Fee

Which companies offer campervan hire in Ireland?

We offer three campervan rental companies to compare:

  • Bunk Campers - based in Dublin

  • Spaceships - based in Dublin

  • McRent - based in Dublin and Limerick.

  • Anywhere Campers also offer a Dublin collection and a one-way rental service but with high delivery fees.

McRent offer one-way rentals between Dublin and Limerick with some conditions.

Rental and Driving Information

Is a special driving licence needed to drive a campervan in Ireland?

No, a standard driving licence is all you need to drive a campervan in Ireland. If you hold a driving licence that is not in English you will need an International Driving licence with an English translation. Every driver must present their driving licence on collection of the campervan.

You have to be 21 years or older and hold a valid current unrestricted or probationary drivers licence. It must be a full licence and not a provisional licence and in English. An international drivers licence with English translation is also acceptable. Note, not all companies allow drivers of 21 years to rent a campervan, some have a minimum age of 25 years. Check our terms at time of booking or ask us to check.

Yes, you need to hold a credit card in your name with enough credit to cover any insurance excess or security bond.

All three companies include breakdown cover in the daily rental rate.

Yes, you can take the campervan into Northern Ireland. Please let the rental company know that this is what you intend to do so that they can make sure your insurance covers you.

Yes, you can take the campervan on the ferry to anywhere in the UK. Make sure you check that you have the correct insurance cover for the countries that you want to visit. Some companies allow one-way rentals to the UK and Europe. Ask us for more details.

Yes, there are eleven toll roads in Ireland. You can pay on the spot at a barrier.Keep cash handy as not all take cards.

Is there free camping in Ireland for campervans?

Campsites and Caravan Parks. We strongly recommend you stay in a campsite (caravan (RV) park). Ireland has an extensive network of caravan parks in all major tourist centres and most towns.

Powered sites enable you to connect your vehicle to electricity. The cost is listed separately on campsite websites.

During peak seasons and in popular tourist spots then it is advisable to book a campsite ahead. We understand that you want to travel when you want to when you feel like it and so being restricted to a certain date can limit your freedom to choose. But, if you have a booking it's easier to change it than not having one at all. The rest of the year it's generally ok to leave booking a campsite until the last minute.

Part of the fun in holidaying in a campervan is that you can cook up a storm wherever you are and eat whenever you are hungry.

Ireland has a great supply of fresh food on hand all over the country.

Cooking facilities do vary between smaller camping cars to large motorhomes. There can be a single gas burner and a wash up sink to a full kitchen with large fridge and microwave. Bike racks are an optional extra on some campervans so you can bring your own bike.

Yes, there may be an extra pet cleaning fee. It is listed on the added extras when you make a booking request.

When is high season in Ireland?

The most popular time of year to rent a campervan or motorhome in Ireland is between Easter - so March/April - until end of September while the weather is still good.

If you rent outside of these months the campers are cheaper. There may be a minimum number of days that you have to hire for. All this information is on our easy-to-use booking engine.
