I started the campervan and motorhome rental business Campervans.com way back in 1998. I had been on a few campervan road trips in New Zealand.

My first rental was with Maui Campervans. They still exist and have become one of the largest rental companies in the world.

We toured the whole of the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Staying sometimes in campsites and sometimes we free-camped. Our vehicle was fully contained even back then.

An opportunity came from Kea Campers (now part of the THL group) to represent them in the UK. I did this willingly.

They were very new to the rental business and really the only competition was Maui.

Kea Campers went on to win many, many awards for excellence. They showed how the campervan rental business could thrive with quality, top of the range vehicles. They aimed to be the best.

Kea went on to offer a rental fleet in Australia as well which suited me fine. I was happily sending many customers from the UK to New Zealand and it was only in a short time that I started getting requests for touring Australia in a campervan.
